Course set for the Maddalena Archipelago
From Porto Rafael, the navigation toward the Maddalena Archipelago is a gentle passage, almost silent. The coastline is left behind as the landscape slowly unfolds: a succession of granite islands shaped by wind and sea, between pale beaches and natural pools.

La Maddalena

Heart of the archipelago
The main island of the archipelago welcomes visitors with the discreet charm of its historic centre, where cobbled streets, small squares and views over the harbour tell of a life still deeply tied to the sea and its slow rhythms. Local shops, the scents of Mediterranean scrub, and simple architecture all contribute to an authentic, timeless atmosphere.
• Ideal starting point for exploring coves, beaches and smaller islands
Cala Gavetta

The historic harbour
At Cala Gavetta, the island’s historic port and maritime heart, fishing boats share the water with elegant yachts. The waterfront is one of the most characteristic spots, perfect for a stroll among moorings, small squares and waterfront cafés.
• Main tourist and fishing landing point of the island
Guardia Vecchia

Sunsets over the archipelago
From Guardia Vecchia, one of the island’s best-known panoramic viewpoints, a full view opens over the entire Maddalena Archipelago and, on the clearest days, as far as Corsica. At sunset, the landscape transforms: light softens, the sea darkens slowly, and the islands emerge like suspended silhouettes.
• Panoramic viewpoint on the island of La Maddalena
• Open view over the entire archipelago and, on clear days, as far as Corsica
Caprera

Wild nature
Beyond the bridge, Caprera reveals a more essential character and a deeply free spirit. Here, the landscape is crossed rather than visited: trails winding through granite, pine trees and Mediterranean scrub lead into untouched nature, to be explored slowly, on foot or by bicycle.
• Ideal for trekking, cycling, snorkelling and diving
Garibaldi memorial complex

In the footsteps of Garibaldi
The Garibaldi Memorial Complex preserves the memory of Giuseppe Garibaldi, who chose Caprera as his refuge until his death. The White House, still visitable today, together with a small wooden hut, conveys the essential nature of his presence: a secluded life immersed in nature.
• Accessible exclusively through guided tours

The most secret coves

Light, sea and silence
There are places in the archipelago that reveal themselves only to those who approach them by sea. Cala Coticcio, with its turquoise waters, and Cala Granara, hidden among junipers, preserve a rare beauty. Further away, Cala Corsara is a symphony of colours, while the small inlets of Isola Piana remain among the most isolated in the archipelago, where human presence dissolves completely. Here, the landscape is reduced to its essence: light, sea and silence.
• Best moments: early morning and late afternoon for light and tranquillity
